Sapphire

Procédés d'usinage

Sapphire is a crystal that naturally occurs in different colours, which are caused by small impurities. The first person to manufacture synthetic sapphire was Auguste Victor Louis Verneuil in 1902. He gave his name to the flame fusion process that is still used today.

Sapphire is used in a whole host of applications due to its special properties: it’s the hardest and most durable material after diamond. Sapphire is almost indestructible and resistant to numerous external influences, which is why it is used to make watches. They require a material with a non-porous surface that is scratch-resistant, totally transparent and sparkles.

Thanks to our experience and expertise, we can fabricate this material into complex shapes requiring a great deal of care in the machining process.
